Procrastinators Beware!!!!

Although the Centers For Medicare & Medicaid Services has moved its implementation date for the National Provider Identifier to May 23, 2008, those practitioners who have not yet received their NPI number should not breath a sigh of relief. SPPM has been informed by several of its members that although CMS is not requiring the NPI until May 2008, a growing number of managed care plans and state Medicaid plans are refusing to process renewal applications or applications for new providers without an NPI number. If you have not done so already, you may obtain an NPI number by contacting you local Medicare intermediary for instructions.
